October in Rochester: Things to Do Close to Home
October Is a Great Time to Explore Rochester
You don't always have to drive an hour to find something fun to do in the fall.
October brings plenty of activity right here in Rochester, making it a great month to explore downtown, support local businesses, and enjoy some classic New Hampshire fall traditions.
Rochester Main Street has several October events planned for 2026, including the Halloween Spooktacular & Pumpkin Patch on October 3, the Zombie Walk on October 23, and Downtown Trick-or-Treat on October 24.
The Halloween Spooktacular on October 3 will include a pumpkin patch and trunk-or-treat activities, while the October 24 Downtown Trick-or-Treat gives families another opportunity to enjoy downtown Rochester in costume.
Why Local Events Matter When You're Choosing a Home
When you're house hunting, it's easy to focus on bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and the kitchen.
Those things matter — but they aren't the entire picture.
Where you live also determines what you can do on a random Saturday afternoon.
Can you walk downtown?
Are there local restaurants?
Are there parks and trails nearby?
Are there community events for families?
Are there local businesses you can support?
Is there a sense of community?
These are the details that can make a house feel like home.
Rochester Has Plenty Going On
Rochester offers a combination that appeals to a variety of buyers. You can find established neighborhoods, newer construction, larger properties, and homes closer to downtown.
And with Portsmouth, Dover, the Lakes Region, and the Maine border all within reach, Rochester can also be a practical location for people who want access to several different areas.
For buyers, it's worth considering your lifestyle just as carefully as your home wishlist.
For homeowners, those lifestyle factors can also be important when thinking about your property's future resale appeal.
A Fall Reminder for Homeowners
October is also a good month to take a walk around your own property.
Look at your landscaping.
Check the exterior.
Notice anything that needs paint or repair.
Look at the driveway and walkways.
Take a few photos of the front of your house.
You may notice things you've stopped seeing because you've lived with them for so long.
Those little observations can become a useful starting point if you're considering making improvements before selling.
